This place is an arena. A very large one. Styled in classic Greco-Roman architecture, it encloses a half mile of sandy ground. Portals are inset all along its wall, one every 30 degrees. One half of them are used as an entrance for the brave (or very foolish) and the other half are used to admit what will eat them. Beneath the sand, there are adjustable slots which, when opened, allow walls to be lifted into the arena, turning it into a giant labyrinth. There are no exits, only entrances that close behind challenger and predator alike.
